Happy New Year Everybody! As some of you may know I celebrated 2020 with a private dinner party for close friends, family, and supporters to launch my new spice line FEISTY SPICES. I couldn’t have asked for a better intro to 2020! I worked tirelessly on this new business venture and I’m super excited that it’s finally here and available for everyone to try.
Creating Feisty Spices has been the hardest and most amazing thing I’ve done since launching my catering business. Every time I thought I was one step closer to launching, I was pushed back a few steps. I wanted to quit and convinced myself I didn’t know what I was doing. Setback after setback was presented to me like a birthday gift with a shiny big bow, and like an idiot – I unwrapped it and wallowed in the pity. When I couldn’t raise the capital, I convinced myself it was because no one supported me. When I had to delay the release date, I convinced myself it was because “this” just wasn’t for me.
When I realized I was thinking foolishly and my parents didn’t raise a quitter. I convinced myself it was enough of the non-sense! I prayed, I got up, dusted myself off, and got back to work. I’ve repeated these last few steps a number of times before I was ready to officially launch. However, when I was finally ready – a few mishaps proved themselves not to be. Instead of getting discouraged, I just shook off the disappointment and continued to focus on more ways to improve my launch until everything I needed was ready.
Talk about perfect timing! When I first ordered my packaging I was supposed to have it before Thanksgiving. Then due to a manufacturing mishap I wasn’t going to get my packages until mid January!! WHAT!! But….. I didn’t freak out. I just decided to celebrate instead. So what did I decide to do?
Throw a launch party! I already knew I was going to launch, I was just waiting on boxes at this point. Instead of letting this little setback take me back to a place of doubt and discouragement, I showed my gratitude and celebrated my blessings. The timing couldn’t have been more perfect because I was entering into the new year with a new business, and a new perspective. Glory to God – because only now while I’m writing this blog – I see the transition of my mental growth.
All the more reason to party!
When I decided to throw this launch party, I knew I wanted it to be intimate and private. I wanted the launch to be invitation only to those who have been there for me since the moment they’ve known me. This wasn’t a party for “show” or popularity – it was a celebration of love and gratitude. A thank you. And the best way I know how to say thank you is feeding people. Me taking the time out to cook for everyone, that’s why I wanted to have a dinner party. Not just to introduce some of my spice blends – but to intentionally prepare a meal created out of love and compassion and to feed the souls of those who are always there for me.

I wanted an intimate grown and sexy look with a NY rooftop vibe. A lot of people thought I was crazy for having an outside dinner party in Houston, in December. I didn’t care though, I knew what I wanted. I also knew I needed help (and by help – someone to do all the work) to pull this off. So I enlisted the one and only Lauren Ashley of LA Weddings & Interiors. Not only is this beautiful soul a super talented designer and coordinator, she is my dearest high school friend. (I just want to point out that L.V. Hightower High School Alumni is out here KILLING the game!!)
Lauren made my parents backyard look like a completely different space. It was so stunning, I’m at a lost for words to describe it, and to truly experience the beautiful scene she created – you had to be there. You could literally feel the beauty.
I’m all for turning up with the latest club DJ, but that wasn’t the vibe I was going for. To keep the grown & sexy feels going, I opted for a live band instead. We had live music from the R&B Superhero himself, Reggie Jamz (another Hightower Alumni by the way). I just think when you are creating a specific atmosphere, you have to be mindful of every detail. A live band at a dinner party sets a whole new tone.
Taking Your Dinner Party Up A Notch!
Oh.. it doesn’t end there! I wanted to give my guests an extra treat. With a thoughtful hot chocolate bar for everyone to stay warm it was equipped with endless toppings.
Of course, that wasn’t all WE HAD S’MORES TOO! Why not have a warm fire burning adorned with marshmallows and a plethora of graham crackers and chocolates for guests to engage over and release the kid inside.
Cheers to the New Year! I only wanted two drink options (mainly because they are my favorite – and you can never go wrong with them) Champagne and an Old Fashioned. But y’all know me, I had to kick it up a notch. I got a beautiful champagne wall from Unique Events 4 You and Lauren added a touch of feisty to it with a custom sign that said “Feeling Feisty” at the top. I couldn’t forget about the Old Fashioned though. So I decided to create a “Build You Own Old Fashioned Bar” with stackable drink dispensers of whiskey, old fashioned mix, juices, etc. Its was perfect! With a specialty mixer of Roasted Strawberry Lemonade featuring Feisty Spices ‘Shameless’
I’m excited to share this with you all. Check out photos from the launch party and be on the look out for the next one!
After all of this, the only thing I have to say is BRING IT 2020!! Because your girl is extremely grateful and looking straight ahead.
Happy New Year Y’all!
