I did a couple of grilled cheese bars for a few clients last week. So in honor of the Fall season, and Thanksgiving only being a few days away; I decided to switch the menu up! For the better, of course – although it was already amazing. I was thinking to myself…what can I do to really blow their minds, but still keep it simple.
I got it!! Thanksgiving in a sandwich..duh!
Here are a few of the sammie options…
Cranberry, Turkey & Swiss
Brie, Apricot & Bacon
and of course… the Sweet Potato Pie (which was a hit – after a few “weirded out” reactions.
After offering the signature sammie to a few guests, I gave up for a while. Thinking “no one is going to try this sandwich. Maybe I went too crazy with ingredients on this one.” Doubt definitely started to set in. Then I was talking to lovely ladies, at the event, about the different sandwiches. Explaining the toppings, why they pair well together, etc. At that moment, I realized this is the perfect opportunity to sale them on the Sweet Potato Pie. “Nah..maybe not.” “They won’t be interested.” SHUT UP DOUBT!
“I also have a Sweet Potato Pie Grilled Cheese, it comes with Brie, Candied Pecans, and Salted Caramel. Would you like to try it?”
The ladies looked at each other, then said.. “It sounds interesting..hmm…can I try just a small sample.” Sure thing!
She came back up a little later… Before she could say anything (if she even planned on saying anything at all) I asked her… “How was the Sweet Potato Pie?” SHE LOVED IT! Said is was so good, and that she would have never thought of sweet potato pie as a grilled cheese sandwich. After that, I was offering them throughout the night, and people were eating -and enjoying- them left and right.
See when I initially created the menu, I had faith in every sandwich option I came up with. Then I started to doubt my choices just because a few people didn’t understand them. However, that doubt was quickly overturned, because I refused to let my wisdom be questioned by a few nay-sayers.
“But when you ask him, be sure that your faith is in God alone. Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind. Such people should not expect to recieve anything from the Lord. Their loyalty is divided between God and the world, and they are unstable i everything they do.” James 1:6-8
This is how we should be in EVERY situation. Don’t let doubt cause you to deny what Pops has already approved and granted you wisdom in; instead allow Pops to continue to show what’s best for you. There will be doubters, and there will be people who just don’t understand, but that doesn’t mean waver your wisdom for the acceptance of this world. You were confident when you started it, you were confident when you first made it, you were confident when you first received the assignment – Don’t lose that confidence…that faith!
