Just in time for Labor Day! For all my vegans and vegetarians out there… YES! You can have a burger bar that’s so good even your “meat-eater” friends will be able to enjoy.
So I catered an event, where most of the guests and their families were… YOU GUESSED IT… Vegetarians! I was asking questions about certain restrictions..
Is dairy okay? if not, Does this exclude certain types of bread as well?
I like to know these things ahead of time, so that I don’t offend anyone or cause them to stumble in their religious or cultural identities. So to respect religion and culture, I just made it a vegan burger bar. Which was actually super easy to do, by the way. I grilled some vegan burgers, fruit, and had an array of toppings for the guests to choose from.
This is something that everybody will love, vegan or not. Its super fun, and very interactive. Guests were able to try the vegan burgers, pineapple burgers, melon burgers, and plain on veggie burgers. I’m here to tell you how to set up your very own vegan bar just in time for Labor Day.
When setting up your burger bar, be sure to have lots of trays and tongs, and bowls for all of the toppings and everything. You don’t want pickle juice running over into your lettuce. It won’t be very fun if one of your guests doesn’t like pickles and gets pickled flavored lettuce. But we all knew that right? If you didn’t act like you did.
I prepared the lentil and quinoa the day before, then went ahead and portioned out the burgers and refrigerated them overnight. I formed them into patties as I was grilling.
One Tip: when grilling these burger, make sure your grill is really hot. Hot enough to get a nice crust and gorgeous grill marks on that beauty. Trust me, you’ll appreciate the tip
It was a pretty awesome event, but of course anything with live burgers on site is going to be great. All of the guests really appreciated the thought I put into their cultural traditions. They were even shocked that I made a veggie burger taste so good…. So good that they were asking for the recipe.
So I decided to have a girls day, and recreate this yummy burger bar for my girls! Who said girls can’t grill? TUH!
This bar is perfect for your everyday backyard BBQ or an awesome low-cost wedding, you can even jazz it up and add things like hummus and different flavors of aioli.
What you will need:
Awesome Quinoa Lentil Burgers
Buns (obviously)– I had 3 options to choose from
Toppings: Onions, Lettuce, Tomatoes, Jalapeños, Radishes, etc
Sauces: chipotle aioli, creamy sriracha, cilantro greek yogurt, ketchup, mustard, salsa, etc
Hummus -any flavor works. I used Roasted Red Pepper
This is a super fun burger bar, and it gives your guests multiple options to how they can truly enjoy a burger.. Even if it’s just tomatoes and onions. HA!
